There are various sites on the
internet for real time or bulletin board format chatting that can provide
information and emotional support. Try checking out some of the places listed
below, but once again remember to consult with your doctor on information that
you find.

There is a Health and Medicine Chat at
WBS.
You need to register then under the "Home & Support" community, click "Support"
and choose "Health and Medicine". Then choose your chat mode, I recommend
streaming or no frames. Once in the chat, then you can bookmark that page so you
won't have to sign in each time. If you chose no frames, I recommend leaving the
refresh rate at 0, otherwise you might not have enough time to type your
message. There are also several other support oriented chats at this site,
including the following groups: Cancer Support, Disabled, Eating Disorders,
Alanon, and Support for Large People.

Central you can chat with online psychologist
John Grohol, Psy.D. or catch him on
IRC's (Internet Relay Channels) mental health chats every Monday night,

The TRC Brain Tumor Chat
- This chat meets 7 days a week at 8:00 PM Eastern. There is also a email
discussion list for those dealing with a brain tumor, to sign up go to

- There are two scheduled chats each week: Mondays and Thursdays at 9 pm

Company Chat
- A diabetes chat room that is open 24 hrs a day, with scheduled chats
Mon., Wed., and Fri., at 2pm and 7pm EST. The topic is anything relating to
diabetes and how it might affect ones life.
Arthritis Chat Room
- An arthritis chat room that is open 24 hours a day and has a weekly
scheduled chat usually on Tuesdays at 8 pm eastern time.
Asthma Chat
- The Asthma Chat Room is always open and has scheduled asthma chats on
Tuesdays at 9 pm eastern time.
The Leaning Tree
Chat Room
- The Leaning Tree Chat Room is available 24 hours a day for any chats
related to Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Gulf War Illness & Related
Disorders. Check the

Death and Dying Chat Room
- Go to the Death and Dying Chat Room to discuss issues in grief and care
of the terminally ill. The chat room is always open for use 24 hours a day
and has regular scheduled chats.
MGH
Neurology Chat Rooms
- Massachusetts General Hospital provides chat rooms about neurology
related topics and they "periodically have an MGH Neurologist host a chat
session on a particular neurological topic". There are Epilepsy,
Fibromyalgia, Alzheimers Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, RSD (Reflex
Sympathetic Dystrophy), and Tourette Syndrome Chat Rooms among many others.
There is also a link to their "Neurology Web Forums".
MedSupport
- You need to click "I accept" and then the next page has information and
links to chats. There is a moderated chat nightly at 8 pm EST in the main
chat room. And there is Fibromyalgia Discussion Group Chat every from
Wednesday 8-10 PM EST.
Melissa's
Diabetes Chat
- There are on-line meetings every second Wednesday at 10:00 PM EST. You
can join the chat or just listen.
Lupus Chat
- Scheduled chats Monday through Sunday.
Chronic Pain
- Has information about a Chronic Pain Community Chat Room and a mailing
list for people with chronic pain.
Convomania
- A place for seriously ill and disabled kids on the Internet which
includes chat rooms and message boards.

- A chat community that includes several specific medical chats. You can
chat at Talk City by using EZTalk which requires you to use a Java capable
browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or Netscape Navigator 3.0.
- Cancer Chat
Barry S. Tepperman MD MBA, a practicing radiation oncologist, hosts a weekly
two hour chat that is very supportive and informative. The chat room is
always available and easy to use.

- The Group Room
The Group Room is a call-in cancer support show that you can listen to every
Sunday from 4pm to 6pm est on Real Audio.

MediConsult's Cancer Patient Emotional Support Group
Dr. Jeff Kane hosts this Support Group that allows visitors to "post
comments, ideas or questions to a public bulletin board to encourage a
sensible discussion. The submission process is moderated to ensure that
inappropriate messages are not posted".

OncoChat is an IRC chat channel. At Oncochat's Home Page you can find

A supportive group for cancer victims, cancer survivors, their friends and
families. To access the chat use Chatnet and go to #cancer channel.

An IRC chat channel accessed on the Anothernet IRC network. Use
irc.another.net (port 6667) and go to channel #braintmr. This channel is for
brain tumor patients and caregivers.

An IRC chat channel accessed on the

Provides support for leukemia patients, family, and friends.
